Local garden centres
The following centres are easily accessible on foot or by public transport
Columbia Road Flower Market
Take a stroll on a Sunday morning to London’s finest flower market on Columbia Road. Officially open from 8am to 2pm (although many stalls are still selling plants and flowers until at least 3:30pm. You can often pick up a bargain on stock they don’t want to transport back if you’re there late.
It’s about a 30 minute walk or you can take the 55 or 243 bus from Old Street. Get off at Hackney Road / Columbia Road bus stop if you’re on the 55, or at Hoxton Station / Museum of the Home bus stop if you’re on the 243).
The Boma Garden Centre
The Boma Garden Centre is a family-owned garden centre in Kentish Town offering a diverse range of house and garden plants, plus gardening tools and accessories. It has an excellent website and app - worth downloading to receive their vouchers and rewards. This is probably our most accessible garden centre - just a 3 minute walk from Kentish Town station on the Northern line. The tube from Moorgate takes about 15 minutes; you can take the 46 or 214 bus to stops relatively close by or, if you want a bit more exercise, it takes about an hour and 15 minutes to walk from the Barbican.
Camden Garden Centre
Camden Garden Centre is a well-stocked award-winning garden centre selling an excellent range of indoor and outdoor plants, plus gardening tools, accessories and furniture. It has a nice cafe upstairs. This also has a loyalty card scheme. The tube to Camden Town takes 11-15 minutes followed by a 12 minute walk; buses 46 and 214 take about 40 minutes or it’s a 20 minute drive if you have a car (they have a free car park for customers). It takes just over an hour on foot, much of which is a pleasant walk along Regent’s Canal.
N1 Garden Centre
Boutique garden centre on Englefield Road in Hackney. Not the cheapest but good quality and worth a visit for both indoor and outdoor plants.
It takes about 35-45 minutes to walk or take either the number 141 or 76 bus from Moorgate.
The Flower Warehouse & The Plant Warehouse
The Flower Warehouse on Cambridge Heath Road is excellent for houseplants although it does sell a limited range of outdoor plants. It also has a particularly good range of modestly priced indoor and outdoor pots and planters out at the back.
The Plant Warehouse is located on the opposite side of the street and has a more boutique vibe exclusively selling house plants.
