What is there

The Garden was originally established by the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries in 1673 as an outdoor classroom to train their apprentices. It is among the oldest botanical gardens in Britain.

At the Garden apothecaries were trained to identify different plants, and to understand their uses. Chelsea Physic Garden has been a teaching garden for over 350 years.

Within the Garden visitors can find over 4500 species of edible, useful and medicinal plants that help to tell the story of humanity’s relationship with plants.

Admission and cost

• Open Sunday to Friday 11.00 am – 4.00 pm (closed Saturday). Closes 23 Dec to 25 Jan.

• Adult admission £10 (2024-25) plus various alternative admission options.

• On busy days, can be better to book in advance.

• Guided tours available (need to be booked)

Underground to Sloane Square, then 15 minute walk
